Desk Drawer Organization on a Budget

Hi everyone. I'm Alejandra from Alejandra.tv and in this video, I'm going to show you how to organize your desk drawers on a tiny budget.

But first if you are looking to start getting organized, you can check out my free video series on my website Alejandra.tv. There's a link below.

In my previous video, I showed you how to organize your desktop on a tiny budget and in this video, I'm going to show you how I've tackled all of my desk drawers on the same budget with all products from the dollar store.

As I mentioned before, you have to have systems in place in your home office around your desk if you want to stay productive, get things done, cross things off your to-do list and really just think more clear in your work space.

I've set up beautiful systems that are functional. They are easy to access and they look nice in all of the drawers. So let me show you exactly what I've done here.

Office Supply Organization

In the top drawer here, I have used a utensil organizer. So this is just the utensil organizer from the kitchen. Just because it belongs in the kitchen doesn't mean it has to stay in the kitchen. It looks like it could be a drawer organizer so I totally use it as a drawer organizer for colored pencils, pencils, pens, markers and then some bigger supplies.

If you are looking for extra storage space, you can always stack them. So what I did here was I stacked two of them. I didn't need extra storage space. I'm just showing you if you want to use this too.

But what you have to do is you have to rotate them. So like you can see that the big compartment in the top organizer is on the left of the drawer and then the big side on the bottom organizer is on the right. If you put them both facings the same way, they're just going to nest inside of each other. But if you rotate them, they're going to stack on top of each other. So you can totally double the amount of storage space by doing that cool little trick right there.

Low Cost Receipt Organization

In terms of organizing your receipts, I found two Poly Envelopes from the dollar store for all of my home receipts and my business receipts.

So, last year I showed you how to organize your desk drawers. In the video I showed my complete system and I basically took my same systems and I implemented them with dollar store products. All the systems I'm showing here are systems I use in my home and business, office life.

So the dollar store has at least three different Poly Envelopes. The best quality ones to look for are the envelopes that have the white button, with the white string. They have the tightest rubber band that actually stays closed really nicely.

Another one of their options is where the button on the envelope is a color and the rubber band is the color as well. Those don't really have a tight clasp.

They also sell longer/wider poly envelopes. So if you are filing receipts for like 8.5 by 11 receipts, you would get the longer one. So those just hang out right there nice and out of the way. All right.

Shipping Supply Organization

The second drawer, so in my old desk drawers, I had a shipping drawer. It was my favorite drawer out of my whole desk. It had all of my envelopes, stamps, address labels, checks. It was just a beautiful system. So I wanted to use – create like a similar system and I was able to do it. So I'm really excited to show this drawer.

This is what it looks like. So all I did here was I found these long – they're like pen and pencil organizers. They're long. There are four of them side by side here. They fit perfectly inside the drawer and now I just have – all of my checkbooks are over here. All of my envelopes are right here, long ones, short ones.

I went to seven different dollar stores and I only saw these little poly envelopes at one dollar store. They were just hidden in the school section. In the envelops I keep stamps and address labels, and checks to deposit. So when I get a check in the mail, I will put it in one of the envelopes and then when I go to the bank, take this whole envelope to the bank with me.

Inexpensive poly envelopes from the dollar store

Inexpensive poly envelopes from the dollar store are a great way to keep stamps, receipts & stickers organized.

I also have an envelope to organize Travel receipts. So when I travel, I will just bring this with me to put all my travel receipts and then bring this home.

Then I keep all of my gift receipts when I buy gifts in another envelope until I know that the person is not going to return the item.

So these envelopes are awesome, they were two for a dollar. So they're 50 cents each. They come in pink, green, blue and black. They have a nice clasp just like that and they fit the drawer perfectly and I just couldn't believe that I found Poly Envelopes for 50 cents each at the dollar store.

So you kind of have to – you might have to check different Dollar Trees because I only found them at one store.

Anyway, that is my second drawer. I just love it. It just looks so organized. Everything has a home and it's just really easy to mail something or process a check or write a check.

Then the bottom drawer down here has all of my Poly Envelopes and small binders. So I found these guys. These are like mini-sized file folders – not file folders. File boxes.

They have these nice lids just like this. So I just have all my Poly Envelopes inside here. I have two of them. They assemble in like five seconds. I'm actually going to take one out and show you.

But they seem like they are great quality. Like I said, they assemble really fast and they're not just for file folders. But you can also use them for like schoolwork. You can assign one box per child if you have kids or you can put artwork in here or you could take it to work like in your office, like in your cubicle for all your projects or something.

But they're a dollar each and they're just awesome. Then you can label them right here. The cool thing about them is that they fit inside of a standard-sized file box. So I talked about file boxes before in previous videos.

They look like they are seriously made for these file boxes. Like this just a standard file box. I'm just going to show you how they fit, two of them, perfectly side by side. So here's one and then the second one I won't put it in.

But it fits – it's like they were made for this box. They're just really cool. So you could put them inside here to kind of create dividers if you want to do that.

So that is this side of my desk drawers. Let me show you the other side.

Small Office Supply Organization

So in the top desk drawer on the left of my desk I keep smaller office supplies like thumbtacks, sticky notes, tape, in these other utensils organizers from the dollar store.

So these small square containers come three for a dollar. They come in clear, frosted clear, and then they also come in a frosted blue. So those are three for a dollar and then the longer ones organizer are two for a dollar and they just fit perfectly inside my organized desk drawer.

What you can do is if you don't want them to slide around like you don't want to open the drawer and then they all slide back, you can put putty, putty them down. The dollar store sells this putty just like that, so you could do that or if you don't want to spend a dollar, you can just shove an old towel back there or shove like an old rag or something. That's what I did here and they're not going to move. So you're just reusing with what you have around the house.

The next drawer is kind of like the same thing with just rubber bands, binder clips. There's some holders, a calculator, loose change and then in the very back, I just shoved another towel back there, so nothing would move.

Then the bottom drawer down here just has more supplies. So these are label kits that you feed in the printer, my address book, CD holders and then there's like some bigger stickers here.

So I use the same file boxes that I showed on the other side of the drawers. What I did here was I just cut off the tops because the top – like the thing – the file box fits nicely in here. But with the lid, it's kind of hard to open and close.

So I just cut it off to see how that worked and it works great. They look like instant deep drawer dividers. So they're great and I just clip them together so they wouldn't move.

That is how I have organized my desk drawers on a tiny budget. So I spent – let's count it up. I spent one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine and the other side, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, twenty. I spent $20 and I've organized six desk drawers in my entire desk. So $20 for the drawers and then the desktop in my previous video was $16.

So I've organized my entire desk for $36 and I've set up a system for every single thing. Everything looks beautiful. Everything is functional, easy to access and now I can just be really productive at my desk. So it just goes to show that you can still get organized on a tiny budget.

So I hope this video has helped you. If this is your first time watching any of my videos, you can check out my website Alejandra.tv or subscribe to my YouTube channel for more tips on getting organized. Thanks for watching and I will see you soon. Bye!
